WHO National Counterpart for Tobacco Control
Tomaž Čakš, PhD. MPH. MD., is WHO National Counterpart for Tobacco Control. He started working on tobacco control in 1990, when he joined the CINDI programme, which then began in Slovenia. He was nominated a member of Slovenian delegation on INB for WHOFCTC by the Minister of Health and is often delegated of Republic of Slovenia on WHO meetings at European region and worldwide regarding tobacco control. He was member of the working group for preparing legislation in tobacco control through different years. He was representative of the Medical Chamber at the EFMA/WHO and for four years The Chair of The Tobacco Action Group. He defended his PhD Thesis in the year 2014 titled “Smoking, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome” and published handbook for health professionals how to help their patient quit smoking: “Quit and win”. Now he is coordinating Quit Line and workshops in Health Centres in Slovenia. He is the author and co-author of several articles from tobacco topics.
