Dr. Otto Ruokolainen (PhD), is senior specialist of tobacco control at THL.
Dr. Ruokolainen has participated in the development of several large health studies and he is an expert in population-based survey research. His main research focus is socio-economic differences in tobacco use and he has published articles on the effect of tobacco control policies in reducing socio-economic differences in smoking among adults.
Dr. Ruokolainen’s other research interests include new tobacco and nicotine products such as electronic cigarettes and snus. He has been actively involved in developing new initiatives of tobacco control policy in Finland, communicating tobacco-related harm to mass media, as well as developing preventive actions for the adolescent tobacco use.
