Medical doctor, Master’s degree in School Medicine, PhD in Public Health.

Senior Specialist in Public Health and tobacco control. Senior Public Health Specialist, with more than 20 years of experience in health promotion and tobacco prevention at the General-Directorate of Health/Ministry of health. Since 2012 to present, Director of the National Programme for smoking Prevention and Tobacco control, at the Directorate-General of Health.

Portuguese representative in the Expert Group on tobacco policy, coordinated by European Commission. Member of the Tobacco Products Directive Committee. SLA administrator of EU-CEG – tobacco products and electronic cigarettes. WHO focal point for Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

Since 2012 to present Invited Assistant Professor at the National School of Public Health (Lisbon). Experience: Former Director of the Health Promotion and Protection Service at the Directorate-General for Health (2006 to May 2012). Since 1991 to 2011 invited assistant at the National School of Public Health (Lisbon). Head of the Health Promotion and Education Division, at the General Directorate of Health (1997 to September 2006).

Head of the Health Education Division at the Directorate-General for Health (1993 to 1997). Member of the National Commission for Women’s, Child and Adolescent Health (2009-2012). Portuguese Representative of the European Public Health Programme Committee 2008-2013.Portuguese Representative in the Committee of the “Community Action Programme in the Field of Public Health 2003-2008”.

Portuguese representative on the Community Programme Committee for Information, Education and Training in The Field of Public Health (1996-2002). Member of the National Support Centre of the National Network of Health Promoting Schools (1994 to 2000). Vice-President of the Tobacco Prevention Council (1997 to 2007). Health Authority of the Municipality of Lisbon (1989 to 1992).
