Maria Alejandra Cardenas

Maria Alejandra Cardenas is a lawyer MD in political science and international affairs.

She has working for more than 15 years on Tobacco control. Since 2017, she is legal adviser for the national and international aspects of the tobacco control policy at the General Directorate of Health of the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health.

Throughout her career, she has designed and implemented projects to strengthen and enforced tobacco control policies, in cooperation with various French, European and international organizations (WHO).

She was ambassador for the American Cancer Society to the United Nations Summit on No communicable Diseases and member of the International Tobacco control lawyers Forum. Since 2004, she is involved in FCTC’s Conference of the Parties, as well as in the negotiating body for the Protocol to eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
