Paul Hickey
Senior Environmental Health Officer
Paul Hickey is employed as a Senior Environmental Health Officer with the Health Service Executive West, based in the University City of Galway. Paul works part-time for the National Tobacco Control Operational Unit (OU) and previously held the position of EHS National Tobacco Control Co-ordinator.
A past Chair of the Environmental Health Officers Association Tobacco Committee, he has a long-standing interest in the area of Tobacco Control. He piloted some of the first health promoting tobacco free initiatives involving the hospitality industry, prior to the introduction of the tobacco free legislation. He is accredited with proposing and advancing the initial use of test purchases of tobacco products involving volunteer minors by Environmental Health Officers, in adapting the protocol used by UK Trading Standards Officers.
Paul holds a diploma in Health Inspection and an M.A. (Hons) in Health Promotion and has a co-authored a number of tobacco research publications.
