The Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research (IRFMN) is a not-for-profit biomedical research organization founded in 1961. Now IRFMN has 3 headquarters in Milan, Bergamo and Ranica, northern Italy, including a total of more than 750 researchers.
The Institute’s main aim is to defend human health and life. To achieve this goal, the Institute’s research programs comprehensively span from the molecular level to the whole human being. The main research topics include the battle against cancer, nervous and mental illnesses, cardiovascular and kidney diseases, rare diseases and the toxic effects of environmental contaminants. In particular, the following two Laboratories, belonging to the same Department of Environmental Health Sciences, are collaborating to explore the toxicological effects of tobacco from different perspective:
1) The Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry, lead by Dr. Enrico Davoli, which has great analytical and instrumental expertise to conduct toxicological laboratory analyses;
2)The Laboratory of Lifestyle Epidemiology, lead by Dr. Silvano Gallus, which has tobacco control as the principal research activity.
