Strategic goal of the Department – to participate in the formation of the state policy in the areas of drugs, tobacco and alcohol control and prevention of drug addiction, to organise the implementation of such policy and implement it based on the Department’s competence, implement control of activities related to precursors of narcotic and psychotropic substances, tobacco and alcohol.
Activities:
• acts as the body supervising and coordinating activities if institutions implementing official control of precursors of narcotic and psychotropic substances, tobacco and alcohol;
• monitors activities related to precursors of narcotic and psychotropic substances and use of narcotic and psychotropic substances, tobacco and alcohol;
• prepares official alcohol, tobacco, drug control and drug addiction prevention programmes, coordinates and controls their implementation;
• organises and coordinates risk assessment of new psycho-active substances;
• acts as a licensor for tobacco and alcohol production and wholesale, for activity related to precursors of narcotic and psychotropic substances, performs seat registration of such activity, issues import and export licences pertaining to such activity;
• controls economic operators’ compliance with the laws governing control of precursors of narcotic and psychotropic substances, tobacco control and alcohol control;
• acts as the national centre of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction;
• performs other functions provided by other laws and regulations.
