WP7 Webinar – Reporting on the health incidence after use of novel tobacco or nicotine products in European countries: Towards a harmonized approach

JATC2 work package 7 is organizing their first webinar on October 18th, 2023

Reporting on the health incidence after use of novel tobacco or nicotine products in European countries: Towards a harmonized approach

The use of novel tobacco products and e-cigarettes can cause serious health effects and deaths. In Europe, there is no harmonized approach for registration of adverse health incidence after using novel tobacco products and e-cigarettes and no centralized collection of this information. More data collected will make it easier to see patterns between incidents and to detect problematic products or product use. For example, in the US regarding EVALI incidence, a cause for the described health effects was identified rather fast due to centralized collection of adverse heath incidence.

In our webinar we will first share results from our survey where we collected data on reporting of adverse health incidence on novel tobacco and nicotine products from EU member states. A good example of collecting data is presented by Milan Anti Poison Centre Niguarda Hospital (Italy). Then we will present best practices of Norway, that is developing a system for adverse health incidence reporting on e-cigarettes and the Yellow Card system from the UK that is already in place. Most importantly, we would like to start a discussion with the audience/you about the adverse health incidence data that is needed to 1) implement laws, 2) provide a scientific base, 3) to develop a harmonized system for EU member states.

Date and time: October 18th, 2023: 10.00-12.00hr CET

Registration form open until October 11th
