APTL / CERTH - Greece
CERTH was founded in 2000 and is one of the leading Research Centres in Greece. CERTH consists of five institutes specializing in the fields of Energy, Environment, Information & Communication, Transportation & Sustainable Mobility and Agro-biotechnology. The development strategy of CERTH is based on establishing strategic collaborations with Industry and developing strong links with Research Centres and Universities within the European Research Area (ERA) and contributing to the training of young scientists and engineers in state-of-the- art technologies. CERTH participates in the JATC project with the Aerosol and Particle Technology Laboratory. APTL was established in 1996 – as a business unit of the Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) at CERTH – with the rationale that the solution of many environmental, health, energy, materials and process industry related issues relies on understanding and exploiting the science of fine particles and their suspensions in various media. Recognizing the current need for health/environmental impact assessment of Incidental and Engineered Nanoparticles (NP), APTL employs a multidisciplinary array of tools and facilities to achieve this task including: i) generation and characterization of Incidental NPs from various combustion and electrosprayed sources, ii) synthesis of tailor-made Engineered NPs, iii) gaseous and nanoparticle emissions sampling and size selection, iv) cell exposure techniques and v) NP health/environmental impact assessment.
